Merrell MOAB FST Gore-Tex

Merrell MOAB FST Gore-Tex

Hi I’m Dan Struthers a photographer from North Wales.  I shoot a variety of subjects but my main passion is shooting in the great outdoors, be it landscapes, action sports or adventure.  I shoot throughout the year in often challenging weather and environments to get the best product for my clients. Meaning I use a lot of kit to keep me dry and comfortable throughout the day

I have been in the market for a new pair of approach shoes for some time, so when Merrell sent me a pair of the new Moab FST GTX I was excited to get out and put them through their paces. Straight out the box I had to say that the shoes looked good, these aren’t just another approach shoe, these really stand out from the crowd, the bold, bright orange laces these shoes certainly catch the eye.

The shoe fitted like a glove on instantly feeling like a pair of old comfy slippers.

It was time to put the shoe through its paces. With Snowdonia in my sights I thought why not start at the deep end climbing up Snowdon via Crib Goch a grade 1 scramble up and over a knife edge ridge. As I started the ascent the shoes made light work of the climb. The Vibram Mega grip did exactly that and the shoe felt light and nimble yet it provided stability, confidence and support and did I mention grip?  They made light work of the ridge, much less cumbersome than my go to two season boot that I use almost daily. I was pleasantly surprised.

With Wales highest peak conquered, it was time to push the shoe well out of its comfort zone. I wore the shoes over several weeks on a variety of jobs, walks and adventures. Crossing rivers and bogs, beaches, trails, hills and pavements. From heavy rain to blazing sunshine, seeing how many miles I could put on them.

What can I say the shoe has outperformed me. Everything I have thrown at it the MOAB FST GTX has taken in its stride, I’m completely sold on them.  My feet have stayed dry thanks to the Gore-Tex membrane protection and the shoes have scrubbed up looking as good as new ready for anything.

This versatile shoe is not out of place taking the dogs to the park for a walk, on a technical scramble or on a week long mountain adventure.  They are now an essential part of my everyday kit
